| David Cowen was born in Newcastle upon
Tyne in 1972 and was a student at Oxford University, where he was Organ Scholar of St.
Peters College. He studied the organ with Timothy Hone, Stephen Farr, Colin Walsh
and Sophie-Véronique Cauchefer-Choplin. From 1994 to 1995 David was
Organ Scholar at Wells Cathedral and was then appointed Assistant Master of the Music at
Leicester Cathedral. In 1999 he moved to Lyon to pursue further studies in organ and
improvisation (he holds the Certificat
daptitude dArtiste Musicien of the Diocese of Paris). On his return to the
United Kingdom in 2002, David took up his current appointment of Organist and Director of
the Choir at Holy Cross Priory Church in Leicester.
In
addition to frequent solo performances, David works regularly with many orchestras and
choirs, and tours have taken him as far afield as Brazil and Japan. He has also prepared
choirs for both the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Concert
Orchestra.
David
Cowen is Associate Organist at Leicester
Cathedral, Accompanist of The
Leicestershire Chorale and a Visiting Music Teacher at Loughborough Endowed Schools
Music School.
In July David will be competing
